The companies gathered up as the Alliance for Open Media to create new media formats, beginning with royalty-free video. The new formats will be designed to work “across devices of all kinds and for users worldwide,“. But the battle will be harsh. The patent-licensing industry is not ready to give up its royalties. Moreover, one of the big names of the tech family is missing: Apple. The company hasn’t joined the force yet and doesn’t seem ready to do it. It may have more assets in its proprietary video sectors to consider than the founding members…
